Australian by birth and now based in Nashville, Tenn., renowned guitarist Tommy Emmanuel regularly puts audiences in awe of his finger-style technique.

Emmanuel began playing music at a young age, touring professionally as part of his family's band at age 6. He was riveted by the playing of Nashville legend Chet Atkins, and dutifully studied his recordings. Atkins would later record with Emmanuel, and bestow upon him his "Certified Guitar Player" tag.

Emmanuel released a live performance DVD last year that doubled as a PBS television special, which aired throughout the country. He has 16 recordings under his name, including an album of guitar duets with Frank Vignola (heard earlier this week playing with Mark O'Connor) called Just Between Frets.

This Mountain Stage performance originally aired April 6, 2010.
