The Memphis-based road warriors in Lucero have been traversing the country and playing gritty, countrified rock music for 13 years. The band's latest CD, 1372 Overton Park, was named after the band's longtime residence — and pays tribute, in part, to the city's rich musical heritage, employing horns and arrangements that evoke the Memphis sound.

Singer-songwriter Ben Nichols leads Lucero along with guitarist Brian Venable, Rich Steff on piano and organ, Roy Berry on drums, Johnny C. Stubblefield on bass and Todd Beene on pedal steel. Nichols responded to audience requests by saying, "We're on the radio; I gotta do a song for my mom," and finished up with the closing track from 1372 Overton Park, "Mom."

This segment originally ran April 26, 2010.
