West Virginia-based singer-songwriter Bud Carroll has been playing guitar for the better part of his life. Once heralded as a teenage prodigy, Carroll never stopped honing his craft, and has performed and recorded with various groups in and around his home state.

When he was about to turn 21, Carroll got the call to join the modern-rock band American Minor, which started in West Virginia and had since moved into Illinois. The band toured nationally and released a few albums before disbanding in 2005.

Carroll then returned to West Virginia and started a new group, The Southern Souls, with Jimmy Lykens on bass, Steve Barker on drums and Jon Cavendish on keyboards and organ. The group recorded its full-length debut, Wasted Words & Best Intentions, in Athens, Ohio, with producer Eddie Ashworth.

This segment originally ran on April 30, 2010.
