Throughout Appalachia, many festivals and workshops are devoted to traditional old-time music and dance. Members of the Martinsburg, W. Va., string band The Fox Hunt have long taken part in local festivals, like the Augusta Heritage Festival in Elkins and the Appalachian String Band Festival in Clifftop. It may be one of the only times the hard-touring group stays in one place for any amount of time.

A Fox Hunt show always has its share of fiddle tunes and traditional songs — like "Hang Me," included here. The group's original material captures the rambling lifestyle of a traveling band while evoking the country imagery of its members' upbringing. In this visit to Mountain Stage, the band performs songs from its third full-length album, Long Way to Go.

This segment originally ran May 26, 2010.
