From the Sahara Desert in northern Mali comes the Tuareg band of musicians known as Tinariwen. Formed in 1979, the band has lived a story of rebellion, war, travel and triumph, as it became an internationally renowned touring act in the early 2000s. Rooted in the sounds of West Africa, Tinariwen mixes Western instruments with Tuareg rhythms and timbres.
