With a sound that conjures the best of 1930s and '40s pop, and lyrics inspired by entities as diverse as Judy Garland, Queen and the television drama Dexter, April Smith and The Great Picture Show make their first appearance on Mountain Stage. Their latest release, Songs for a Sinking Ship, was funded in large part by fan donations.

Smith's songs have been featured on several television shows, and she's opened shows for famed '70s songwriter JD Souther. Her backing group, The Great Picture Show, features Mike Stein on keyboards and accordion, Nick D'Agostino on drums, Steve Purpuri on electric and acoustic bass and Marty O'Kane on guitar, ukulele and accordion.

This Mountain Stage performance was originally published on June 15, 2010.
