Nigerian-born singer Nneka was heavily influenced by the music and politics of Fela Kuti, but her own music appropriates healthy dollops of American-style soul. On her U.S. debut, Concrete Jungle, Nneka finds a sweet spot where R&B meets Afrobeat, and where the desire to make people dance coexists comfortably with a sincere belief in the importance of making them think. Here, Nneka performs live at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, R.I.
