It's a great idea in theory: One of the leading trumpeters, composers and public figures in jazz puts together a brass ensemble. Led by Dave Douglas, it's an even better idea in practice, bounding with enthusiasm and virtuosity. The compact-but-mighty Brass Ecstasy lit up the CareFusion Newport Jazz Festival in Newport, R.I., with a stylish, fervent update of the brass-band tradition.
