Born in Idaho and raised in Wasilla, Ak., guitarist and singer Megan McCormick grew up in a family of musicians (her grandparents are in the Western Swing Hall of Fame). She boasts a wide array of influences, including Reba McEntire, Aretha Franklin and — as she mentions after "Oh My Love" — Judy Collins, who had performed earlier in the evening.

McCormick studied music in the bluegrass program at Eastern Tennessee State University, but her CD, Honest Words, is a diverse rock record, produced by Grammy winner Dave O'Donnell. McCormick's voice, not to mention her accomplished guitar playing and songwriting, blew away the audience during this engaging live performance.

McCormick brought her Nashville-based band to Mountain Stage, featuring Ethan Ballinger on rhythm guitar, Lee Holland on drums, Cal Joslin on bass. The foursome perform four songs from Honest Words, including "Shiver," which wasn't heard on the radio broadcast.

This Mountain Stage performance was originally published Oct. 8, 2010.
