Canadian indie rockers Stars combine narrative lyrics and gorgeous vocals. Originally formed in Toronto in 1998 by singer Torquil Campbell and keyboardist Chris Seligman, the duo was soon joined by singer-guitarist Amy Millan and bassist Evan Cranley. After the release of the 2004 album Set Yourself on Fire in the U.S., Stars became a huge buzz band for the breakout single "Ageless Beauty."
The band's latest record, The Five Ghosts, is a welcome return to the sound so many have become enchanted with — wrenching ballads lined with dance-pop grooves. And like the title suggests, its sound is filled with a sense of haunting mystery.
