Interactive: Rapid Price Rise At California's Hospitals

This graphic shows how some hospital systems are able to negotiate higher rates because of their market clout. It's impossible to compare Kaiser Permanente hospitals to these traditional hospitals because they are part of a closed system, and they don't negotiate their rates with Kaiser Permanente the insurer. Other hospitals, including psychiatric facilities and specialty hospitals, were also excluded because accurate comparisons aren't possible.
