A Texas couple went fishing last week. They decided the beach weather was too cold for their toddler, and left him in the car with the engine running. A homeless man jumped in and drove off. But he hadn't bargained for the toddler. He brought it back and yelled at the couple for leaving the child in the car.

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

A homeless man in Texas saw an opportunity. Somebody left their car running by the beach. So the man leaped in and drove off. Only afterward did he look in the backseat. He saw the toddler that the owners had left in the car to protect it from the cold. Say what you want about the car thief. He did the right thing. He drove back to the beach. He returned the car. And before running away, he scolded the parents for leaving their child unattended.
