Police in Germany were questioning a drug suspect when they noticed his Christmas tree. It was a 7-foot-tall marijuana plant, decorated with lights.The man told officers he had planned to decorate it with ornaments and spread presents underneath it, he said, "according to tradition."

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

A young person told me yesterday that a Christmas tree is a Santa compass. But a German man's Christmas tree had an entirely different kind of navigation. Police were questioning a drug suspect when they noticed his Christmas tree. It was a seven-foot-tall marijuana plant, decorated with lights. The man told officers he planned to decorate it with ornaments later and spread presents underneath, according to tradition.
