Watch The Interview From Backstage At Mountain Stage

Set List

  • "New Old Blue Car"
  • "The Words In Red"
  • "House Rent Party"
  • "Thirty Days in the Workhouse"
  • "I Shook His Hand"
  • "Worried Mind" (performed by Bob Thompson)

Peter Case makes his ninth appearance on Mountain Stage since 1989 with songs from his latest CD, Wig! He is joined by Mountain Stage Band members Ammed Solomon on drums, Steve Hill on bass and Michael Lipton on electric guitar for the first two songs and finishes with three solo numbers. "I Shook His Hand" originally appeared on Case's 1986 self-titled debut, as did "Old Blue Car," which has been re-imagined for Wig! as "New Old Blue Car."

After emergency heart surgery left Case with an insurmountable medical bill, some of his admirers stepped up to help raise money for him, including Loudon Wainwright, T-Bone Burnett and Joe Henry. Case emerged with Wig!, which revisits the garage-rock and proto power-pop of his early days fronting California groups The Nerves and The Plimsouls.

This set finishes with Mountain Stage pianist Bob Thompson's solo rendering of "Worried Mind," recorded by Roy Acuff and Ray Charles, among many others.

This performance originally ran on Dec. 15, 2010.
