RENEE MONTAGNE, host:
Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.
Chicago's biggest trade group of cosmetologists is honoring one of its own for a towering achievement: the beehive. That '60s concoction of ratted hair and spray first appeared in the magazine Modern Beauty Salon. Hairdresser Margaret Vinci Heldt said she was inspired by a cone-shaped hat she wore - a fez that's now headed for the Chicago History Museum. The beehive had the added charm of lasting a full week between salon visits.
