James, Sam and Abe Wilson are the Sons of Bill, both in real life and on stage. The eldest sons of Bill Wilson grew up in Charlottesville, Va. Inspired by their father's tendency to finger-pick old country tunes around the house, the brothers have been playing music most of their lives. Their paths split initially, but in 2005, the brothers returned to Virginia to converge on the songs of James Wilson. Their debut, A Far Cry From Freedom, includes "Roll on Jordan," performed here in their first appearance on Mountain Stage.

Set List

  • "Broken Bottles"
  • "Roll on Jordan"
  • "The Rain"
  • "Joey's Arm"

The band's breakout release, One Town Away, again features the songs and vocals of James Wilson, guitarist Sam Wilson and keyboardist Abe Wilson, along with longtime friends in bassist Seth Green and drummer Todd Wellons. The songs should appeal to fans of Drive-By Truckers and Robert Earl Keen, both of whom have shared the stage with Sons of Bill.

This segment originally ran April 29, 2010.
