Brass man Trombone Shorty and his band, Orleans Avenue, hail from the Treme district of New Orleans, popularized recently by the HBO series of the same name. Here, they perform "Where Y'At" from Backatown, plus three tunes that can be heard on a live digital EP.

With Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews on trombone, trumpet and lead vocals, Orleans Avenue is composed of Mike Ballard on bass, Joey Peebles on drums, Dwayne Williams on congas, Pete Murano on guitar, Dan Oestreicher on baritone sax and Robby Marshall on tenor sax.

This new-school sound, which Andrews has dubbed "supafunkrock," leans heavily on horn riffs, deft drums and electric guitar. Lenny Kravitz, Marc Broussard and Allen Toussaint all have cameos on Backatown, which was produced by Galactic's Ben Ellman.

This segment originally ran May 4, 2010.
