RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.

After 26 years, Caltech men's basketball team has won a conference game. The win ends a 310-game losing streak for the Beavers. They beat Occidental College by one point. That point came from computer science major Ryan Elmquist, with just three seconds left on the clock. While Caltech may not have the best athletic record, this small research university can boast 31 Nobel prizes.

It's MORNING EDITION.
