Globalization offers new opportunities to promote human rights across borders, but it also poses challenges to existing human rights law. This special discussion was held in response to the traumatic developments in the Middle East and North Africa, including a civil war in Libya and the state of emergency in Bahrain.
These conflicts allow for new insights into what is happening in human rights. In today's fast changing world, human rights are relevant not only in war zones but also on a global battlefield.
Special guests on the panel are Emmanuel Nahshon and Bill van Esveld. Nahson is the Minister of the Embassy of Israel in Berlin and has served many years as a diplomat for Israel. Van Esveld is a researcher for Human Rights Watch based in Jerusalem and has reported extensively on human rights violations during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
