Inspired by a series of shows celebrating the 25th anniversary of Minnesota-based Red House Records, bona fide folk super-group Red Horse is the culmination of years of friendship and admiration. Comprised of acclaimed singer/songwriters John Gorka, Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson, the members of Red Horse have appeared on Mountain Stage a combined 21 times, though never, as host Larry Groce notes, together as a group. As Red Horse, the three perform new material, as well as take turns covering each others songs, much as they do on their self-titled album.

A true collaborative effort, Gorka opens with his own "If These Walls Could Talk," then Kaplansky takes on Gorka's "Blue Chalk." Gilkyson takes the lead with her song "Walk Away From Love," before Kaplansky heads to the piano to cover Gilkyson's "Sanctuary." The set ends with Gorka performing Kaplansky's "Don't Mind Me."

This segment originally aired on April 19, 2011.
