Coming together to first play together in front of a live audience at last year's SXSW, the trio Middle Brother — composed of John J. McCauley III of Deer Tick, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit — has just released its eponymous debut.

Middle Brother emphasizes a traditional, guitar-in-hand rather than fingers-on-laptop songwriting methodology (the three cite Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty as influences). It's the solidification of an intuitive partnership that the threesome felt after several on-stage collaborations between their respective bands. Recorded in Nashville and featuring appearances from Jonny Corndawg and Jason Isbell, the album was released in March.

In this edition of World Cafe, host David Dye interviews Goldsmith, Vasquez and McCauley, and the band plays live in the WXPN studio.
