(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "MOTHERSHIP CONNECTION (STARCHILD)")

CLINTON: Put a glide and in your stride and a dip in your hip and come on to the mothership.

KEYES: And, you know, speaking of the mothership, I live for Bootsy Collins. And Bootsy is about to tell us what music he's listening to as part of our occasional series, In Your Ear.

BOOTSY COLLINS: Hi, the name is Bootsy, baby. And this is what's playing in my ear.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "WHO AM I?")

COLLINS: My nephew Snoop. Snoop Dogg, that is.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "WHO AM I?")

UNIDENTIFIED WOMEN: (Singing) Snoop Doggy Dogg.

UNIDENTIFIED MAN: The bomb.

WOMEN: (Singing) Snoop Doggy Dogg.

SNOOP DOGG: (Rapping) From the depths of the sea, back to the block, Snoop Doggy Dogg, funky as the, the, the...

COLLINS: For me he's number one. He kept the funk alive. Even when the funk - they said the funk was dead, he brought it back and hit them in the head. So, nephew is one of the big dogs. Shouts out to my boy. Snoop Dogg (unintelligible).

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "WHO AM I?")

DOGG: (Singing) 'Cause I'm Snoop Doggy...

WOMEN: (Singing) Who?

DOGG: (Singing) Doggy...

WOMEN: (Singing) What?

DOGG: (Singing) Doggy Dogg.

WOMEN: (Singing) Snoop Doggy Dogg...

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "MS. JACKSON"))

ANDRE: Yeah, this one right here goes out to all the baby's mamas, mamas, mamas, mamas...

COLLINS: I'm listening to Outkast (unintelligible).

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "MS. JACKSON"))

ANDRE: (Rapping) Baby's mamas, mamas. Yeah.

COLLINS: Outkast kept the funk alive.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "MS. JACKSON"))

OUTKAST: (Singing) I'm sorry, Ms. Jackson. I am for real. Never meant to make your daughter cry, I apologize a trillion times.

BIG BOI: (Rapping) A baby drama mama, don't like me. She doing things like having her boys come from her neighborhood to the studio trying to fight me. She need to get a piece of the American pie and take her bite out. That's my house. I disconnect the cable and turn the lights out. And let her know her grandchild is a baby and not a paycheck. Private schools, daycare - medical bills, I'll pay that. I love your mom and everything...

COLLINS: They took the music and just did whatever they wanted to do with it. And I can appreciate that because that's what we did back in the day as Parliament Funkadelic.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "MS. JACKSON"))

BOI: (Rapping) Show her the utmost respect when I fall through. All you do is defend that lady when I call you, yeah.

OUTKAST: (Singing) I'm sorry, Ms. Jackson, oh, I am for real. Never meant to make your daughter cry, I apologize a trillion times. I'm sorry, Ms. Jackson, oh...

COLLINS: No matter what nobody say, they did it their way.

CEE LO GREEN: (Singing) Forget you. Yeah, I'm sorry I can't afford a Ferrari...

COLLINS: Cee Lo ballin'. Yeah, and the reason why, 'cause the man is funky.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FORGET YOU")

LO GREEN: (Singing) I guess he's an Xbox and I'm more Atari, but the way you play your game ain't fair. I pity the fool that falls in love with you.

UNIDENTIFIED PEOPLE: (Singing) Oh - she's a gold digger.

LO GREEN: (Singing) Well...

PEOPLE: (Singing) Just thought you should know...

COLLINS: He's not only funky, he's a junky for the funk. Yeah. And he studied the funk and he's giving it up. Hats off to Cee Lo right here. And ever funking on, baby.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FORGET YOU")

LO GREEN: (Singing) I'd still be with you. Ha, now ain't that some...
