Other Lives are a new indie-pop band from Stillwater, Okla., whose sweeping, melancholy orchestral ballads are already making waves. Its 2009 debut, produced by Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.), was featured on the soundtrack of programs like Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty and One Tree Hill.

The band's sophomore album, Tamer Animals, was released on May 10. Anything but tame, it's a collection of meticulously arranged chamber-pop ballads, at once grandly expansive and immersively intimate.

The band recently appeared on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" and performed alongside Beach House, Modest Mouse and the Flaming Lips at the Sasquatch Music Festival last week. Hear two tracks from Tamer Animals on this week's edition of "World Cafe: Next."
