Tell Me More is featuring stories from immigrants who bring their cultural traditions to their July 4th feasts. Tinbete Ermyas, an Ethiopian American, loves celebrating with hamburgers and share his recipe for Ethiopian beef saute.

MICHEL MARTIN, Host:

Today on this Independence Day we are hearing from members of immigrant families who brought the flavors of their cultural heritage to America. We're hearing some recipes that will be appearing as part of their Independence Day feast. Next we turn to a young Ethiopian-American from Silver Spring, Maryland.

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

TINBETE ERMYAS: My name is Tinbete Ermyas and I grew up in an Ethiopian household that held on to both Ethiopian traditions and American traditions. And the Fourth of July for us is a very multicultural holiday where we celebrate both parts of our heritage.

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

ERMYAS: Our table is about half traditional American food with burgers, hot dogs, potato salad. And the other half is traditionally Cuban cuisine. And my favorite food during the Fourth of July was sega tibs. It is beef that's sautéed with different spices, peppers, garlic powder, cayenne pepper and kind of instantly reminds me of home and of the Fourth of July and also different cultures that we celebrate in our family.

Everybody on this Fourth of July, melcom baal(ph). Happy Fourth of July and I hope you all are celebrating with your families in a very special way.
