Diego Garcia first rose to prominence in the New York indie rock scene as frontman of the moody post-punk group Elefant. When Elefant split in 2010, Garcia pursued a solo career, culminating in the release of his debut album, Laura, earlier this year.
Garcia's new album, which NPR recently named a favorite of the year so far, showcases melancholy, elegantly-arranged songs that draw on the '70s cabaret-pop of Scott Walker and Serge Gainsbourg, as well as the expressive, intricate Latin guitar music of Garcia's Argentine roots.
Hear Diego Garcia play live and discuss his artistic journey as a solo performer on today's World Cafe.
