In the past decade, the members of My Morning Jacket have gradually transformed from devotees of country-tinged classic rock to fearless sonic explorers, incorporating elements of psychedelia, funk, prog, reggae and metal into their eclectic repertoire.
Constantly pushing the boundaries of alt-country has paid off in spades for the Kentucky band, and their ever-broadening sound has won them an ever-broadening fan base happy to be along for the trip. My Morning Jacket's playfully experimental new album, Circuital, peaked at No. 5 on the charts earlier this year.
On today's World Cafe, hear a conversation with My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James featuring live cuts from a webcast performance recorded in May on the day Circuital was released.
This World Cafe segment originally aired July 8, 2011.
