The Tedeschi Trucks Band, led by the husband-and-wife duo of guitarist and vocalist Susan Tedeschi and slide guitarist Derek Trucks, began out of practical consideration. Working together allowed the couple to continue performing while raising their young family. But to fans of Tedeschi and Trucks — each highly accomplished, Grammy-nominated blues musicians in their own right — it might be a surprise that the two didn't combine their sizable talents sooner.

They've been married for nearly 10 years, but it took Tedeschi and Trucks until this year to release their first album, Revelator, and set out on their first tour as the 11-piece Tedeschi Trucks Band. The result is an exhilarating infusion of blues and roots tradition with grit, soul and dazzling musicianship.

On today's World Cafe, hear a conversation with Tedeschi and Trucks and a performance by the Tedeschi Trucks Band recorded onstage at World Cafe Live.

This World Cafe performance originally aired July 29.
