Guitarist and singer-songwriter Jesse Harris previously appeared on Mountain Stage in the mid-90s as part of the duo Once Blue. By the time he returned for this show in 2006, Harris had earned a Grammy Award for writing the title cut of Norah Jones' critically-acclaimed debut album, Come Away With Me. Harris had developed a working relationship with Jones through his post-Once Blue band, the Ferdinandos.

Harris' success as a songwriter led to collaborations with other artists like Bright Eyes, as well as a label deal for the Ferdinandos. He also composed the score and acted in the film The Hottest State. Since his Mountain Stage appearance, Harris has released four records, including the instrumental album Cosmos in 2010.
