In Forest Falls, Calif., 12-year-old Kara Jackson walked into her family's kitchen and found a bear had wandered inside. Home alone, and lacking a weapon, Jackson clapped as loudly as she could, and scared off the bear.

STEVE INSKEEP, host: Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

Yesterday, we told you of a stuffed and mounted bear that disappeared from a California bar. This bear was more active. In Forest Falls, California, 12-year-old Kara Jackson walked into the kitchen and found a bear that had wandered inside. Home alone and lacking a weapon, Ms. Jackson clapped as loudly as she could and scared off that bear. Fathers everywhere will be touched to know that she next went upstairs and called her dad. It's MORNING EDITION.
