Philadelphia singer-songwriter Meg Baird has folk music in her blood. The great-great niece of Isaac Garfield Greer, one of the first recorded Appalachian musicians, Baird has been shaped by all things folk since childhood. She's collaborated with her sister Laura as the folk duo The Baird Sisters, toured with the likes of Bert Jansch and backed artists such as Sharon Van Etten and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.
Baird now returns with a follow-up to her 2007 solo record Dear Companion. The emotive and captivating Seasons on Earth retains much of the classic finger-picking from her first album, but the songs are sturdier in their instrumentation. Her poetic lyricism, quiet yet powerful vocals and a tasteful sense of restraint make this release a contemplative experience, and reasserts Baird as a strong figure in traditional folk today.
