Set List
- "It's Beyond Me" (Vetiver)
- "Wonder Why" (Vetiver)
- "Tony The Tripper" (Fruit Bats)
- "Primitive Man" (Fruit Bats)
- "Picture Of A Bird" (Fruit Bats + Vetiver)
As labelmates and tour companions, San Francisco's Vetiver and Chicago's Fruit Bats have strong ties to one another. Both groups recently released new albums — Vetiver's Errant Charm and Fruit Bats' Tripper, both their fifth — and have been compared to Joanna Newsom and Sufjan Stevens.
Nevertheless, each band's sound is unmistakable. Vetiver's sensibility recalls classic country and folk, while Fruit Bats' members incorporate elements of soul into their sweet, jangly rock. In this joint session of World Cafe, each takes a turn playing live, and the session ends with a collaboration between Fruit Bats frontman Eric D. Johnson and Vetiver member Sarah Versprille in "Picture of a Bird."
