Some flexible, polymer notes begin to circulate this week in Canada. The notes are supposed to last longer, and foil counterfeiters. About 30 other countries have shifted to plastic bills.

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

People buying gadgets in Canada this coming holiday season may be using a different kind of money – plastic money. That's our last word in business today. Some new flexible, polymer notes go into circulation this week in Canada. They're just as colorful as the old Canadian money. New $100 notes come in even more vibrant shades of yellow and brown, we're told. Some people complain that the mustache in an illustration of a former prime minister looks a little messy. But the notes are supposed to last longer, and foil counterfeiters. About 30 other countries have shifted to plastic bills. That's the business news on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm Steve Inskeep.

RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

And I'm Renee Montagne.
