J.D. Souther is best known for his ventures in country and rock — the Grammy-nominated songwriter penned many of Linda Ronstadt and The Eagles' biggest hits — but his pedigree is all jazz. In 2009, after a 25-year hiatus, Souther released If The World Was You, which is a study in jazz, Latin and lounge music. His most recent album, Natural History, continues this stylistic exploration and is, as he described on NPR's All Things Considered earlier this year, "a real crooner album... seductive and sweet."
Souther performed material from Natural History in a live show from WXPN in Philadelphia. Magnolia Memoir kicked off the show with a three-song set that highlights lead singer Mela Lee's songbird voice.
