A state lawmaker in Kansas is proposing a measure to make the cairn terrier the official state dog. Toto from The Wizard of Oz was that breed.

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne. States often name symbols to reflect their heritage and here's a reminder - you're still in Kansas. Legislators are now considering a state dog - the cairn terrier, famous for playing Toto in "The Wizard of Oz." Brenda Moore proposed the bill. She's the obedience chairwoman of the South Central Kansas Kennel Club. Oh, my. She told the Wichita Eagle that like Kansans, the breed is smart, loyal and has a gusto for life. It's MORNING EDITION.
