Van Hunt seems to enjoy defying expectations. Known to most as a smooth R&B singer, he channels influences ranging from Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix to Iggy Pop and Sly and the Family Stone on his latest album, What Were You Hoping For? The record features dashes of punk, funk and even prog-rock, and he let them all rip in this live session on KCRW, with howling vocals to match.
