Germans are also having their own debate over the future of health care as costs are rising and, as Harvard Business Strategist Michael Porter says, the quality of patient care is getting worse.
Porter recently spoke at Berlin's Hotel Adlon where he discussed what he thinks should be done to move Germany towards a more "value based health care" and how to sustain the country's universal heath care system going forward. According to Porter, when health insurance companies in Germany have less competition and hospitals have fewer resources, patients suffer.
The moderator of the debate was Karl Lauterback, Director of the Institute of Health Economy and Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Cologne.
Michael Porter is Bishop William Lawrence University Professor at Harvard Business School.
