Ruthie Foster. Brian Blauser/Mountain Stage
- "Hole In My Pocket"
- "Aim For The Heart"
- "Fruits Of My Labor"
- "Runaway Soul"
Ruthie Foster makes her third appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live on the campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown. Foster's music may be best introduced with word that she's won two seemingly contradictory Blues Music Awards — one for Best Traditional Female Artist and another for Best Contemporary Female Artist in back-to-back years.
A top-notch blues singer, Foster sets herself apart by seamlessly integrating flourishes of folk, gospel and country into her music, earning her a Grammy nomination in 2009. Backed by Tanya Richardson on violin and bass and Samantha Banks on drums, Foster begins her set with the soaring "Hole in My Pocket," which was written by her friend, Terri Hendrix. Foster's cover of Lucinda Williams' "Fruits of My Labor" shows off her Americana side, while her original "Runaway Soul" mixes her blues and gospel influences.
