Guest DJ John Cale
On this week's episode of All Songs Considered, John Cale discusses his latest solo album and shares some of this favorite songs by other artists.
Few artists have had careers as long, distinguished or revered as that of John Cale. A founding member of the pioneering experimental rock band The Velvet Underground, Cale has spent nearly half a century in rock, classical and drone-based music. He's also known for producing seminal works by other artists, such as The Stooges, Patti Smith and The Modern Lovers.
Cale has also had a prolific solo career, and he's just released his 15th solo album, Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood. In this edition of All Songs Considered, he discusses the new record and shares some of his favorite songs by other artists, including Miles Davis and The Isley Brothers. Cale also reveals a few surprises, including the parallels he sees between minimalist music and hip-hop.
