Pope Messages Faithful On Twitter
DAVID GREENE, HOST:
Now, we don't know if he'll be watching television while tweeting, but Pope Benedict XVI has now joined the online masses. His Twitter handle is Pontifex. That's Latin for bridge builder.
GREG BURKE: The strange thing would be if the pope were not tweeting.
GREENE: That's the voice of Greg Burke. He's a former Fox News correspondent who is now social media advisor for the Vatican. The 85-year-old pope already has more than 340,000 followers on an English language Twitter account. Thousands more are following the pope in other languages, including Arabic, Polish, and, of course, Italian. The pope has been getting plenty of tweets directed at him, but his own account has yet to make 140 character pronouncements.
BURKE: The pope's first tweets will come in the form of answers to questions about faith.
GREENE: Greg Burke says those won't happen until the celebration known as the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December the 12th.
