Double Take 'Toons: Collins Comes Out

The first active player in one of the "big four" U.S. team sports has come out as gay. NBA center Jason Collins wrote in an essay in Sports Illustrated, "I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport, but since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation." Mike Luckovich applauds it as a significant step forward, while David Fitzsimmons thinks Collins is in great company as a barrier breaker.
