NPR's Book Concierge Is At Your Service

NPR BOOKS LAUNCHES YEAR-END 'BOOK CONCIERGE' APP

A Dynamic Guide to 2013's Great Reads, Available Now at http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2013/

Meet NPR's Book Concierge, a new way to discover this year's standout titles: from book club-worthy love stories to kids' reads that make you laugh to the public radio staff picks that might bring a blush to your cheeks. For its annual collection of year-end great reads, NPR Books is breaking the "best of" list convention with an app that allows readers to sort, shuffle and surf their way through more than 200 books. NPR's Book Concierge is at your service; pay a visit at http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2013/

The Concierge connects readers with critics' and NPR staffers' all-around favorite books of 2013, including top picks from NPR's go-to librarian Nancy Pearl, Fresh Air book critic Maureen Corrigan, Morning Edition host David Greene and Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me! limericist Philipp Goedicke. The mobile-friendly guide, developed by NPR's News Apps team, presents a tiled display of book covers; users can venture through aptly named categories such as "For History Lovers," "Kids' Books" and "Let's Talk About Sex;" find NPR book reviews and author interviews; and navigate to online retailers that stock each title.

This year's guide is also available in a printable, text-only format right in the Concierge app. (But before hitting the list button, read why NPR Books decided to change things up this year.)

NPR Books helps a busy audience find great reads. The site combines the best of NPR's on-air interviews and news with original reviews, recommendations and lists. It includes popular recurring series such as "You Must Read This," in which well-known authors make one, passionate recommendation; the "NPR Bestseller Lists," based on weekly surveys of 500 independent bookstores nationwide; "My Guilty Pleasure," which reveals the books notable writers love but are embarrassed to be seen reading; and "Three Books," in which authors recommend three books on one theme. The Book Concierge adds to the expanding library of outstanding books coverage at NPR Books - www.NPR.org/books.
