NPR MUSIC BRINGS FREE CONCERT CHANNEL TO ROKU STREAMING PLATFORM
Tiny Desk Concerts Now Available Through NPR-Designed Interface
May 23, 2014; Washington, D.C. – Standing five feet from John Legend as he performs live at Bob Boilen's desk just got better. And bigger, too.* With the new Tiny Desk Concert Channel on the Roku® streaming platform, users can turn on the TV and call up hundreds of HD-quality performances in seconds. The Tiny Desk Concert Channel is free and available now in the U.S. Roku Channel store.
At launch today, NPR Music offers Roku audiences access to the newest video in the series: a performance by the Portland, Ore., band Ages and Ages. The new stream also gives on-demand TV access to nearly 300 Tiny Desk Concerts, including sets by Adele, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Lyle Lovett, Pixies, Wilco and many others that were all performed in the cubicle of NPR Music's All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen. Roku customers can watch individual performances or stream more than 70 hours of music as a continuous video playlist in "radio mode;" browse the extensive series archive or select from the "Editor's Picks" list, curated by Boilen.
"We're excited that Roku has given us this opportunity to present Tiny Desk Concerts in a whole new way," says Anya Grundmann, director and executive producer of NPR Music, "and hopefully spark music discoveries for this new audience along the way."
"Streaming music to the TV is becoming more and more popular and we're happy to now deliver Tiny Desk Concert's high-quality content to Roku customers," says Ziba Kaboli-Gerbrands, director of content acquisition and business development at Roku. "Consumers can now enjoy performances from premier artists and feel like they too are behind-the-scenes in that intimate setting."
The Tiny Desk Concert Roku channel was designed in-house by NPR's Visuals team with NPR Music. It streams HD video and provides clean navigation and design.
