Watch and Listen Live: NPR.org/music and Member Stations
July 22, 2014; Washington, D.C. – Over the next two weekends, NPR Music and partner public media stations will celebrate the 55th Newport Folk Festival and 60th Newport Jazz Festival with a live concert stream and archived recordings of Festival performances. Coverage will kick off with a special live presentation of Ryan Adams in concert from the Newport Folk main stage on Friday, July, 25 at 6:00 PM (ET). Audiences worldwide can listen to the singer's performance live at NPR.org/music and on NPR Member Stations across the country (check local listings at npr.org/stations).
Adams' headlining performance is his first appearance at the Newport Folk Festival, and comes just more than a month before the release of his highly anticipated, self-titled solo album. While the singer has explored everything from driving rock and country to heavy metal, Ryan Adams, his first release in three years, leans toward the blues. Adams is expected to offer an early preview of his new songs during the Newport show.
This year's Newport Folk Festival and Newport Jazz Festival takes place on July 25-27 and August 1-3 respectively. Throughout each weekend, NPR Music records much of the main-stage lineup and covers the Festivals with reporting and photography from the Festival grounds at Fort Adams State Park via Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtags #newportfolk and #newportjazz. In the weeks following the Festivals, NPR Music will post audio from the sets online for fans to enjoy.
NPR Music coverage of the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals is proudly presented in coordination with NPR Member Stations. For the Folk Festival, station partners include WFUV New York, FolkAlley.com from WKSU in Ohio, and mvyradio in Martha's Vineyard. NPR Music teams up with WBGO Jazz 88.3FM Newark for the Jazz Festival.

About the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals
The Newport Jazz Festival® and Newport Folk Festival® are produced by the Newport Festivals Foundation™, which was founded by music impresario George Wein in 2010 to build and continue the legacies of the famed events. Under the auspices of the Foundation, the festivals present performers who respect and honor jazz and folk music traditions, and at the same time reflect the changes in today's musical trends. Through the establishment of partnerships with local high schools, colleges/universities and other organizations, the Foundation presents programs to educate young people about jazz and folk music as presented at the annual festivals.
