AAJA Conference
July 29-August 4, 2001
San Francisco, CA

"The Beat" is the AAJA Student Radio Project, funded by National Public Radio and the Kellogg Foundation. Technical support comes from the California-based software company "Digidesign" and "CJT Enterprises" of Owings Mills, Maryland. Support also comes from Chris Mandra and Ken Goldberg, in NPR's New Media department.

This project is designed to give college students interested in journalism careers a chance to spend a week working one-to-one with a professional journalist. The participants will conceive, develop, record, edit and produce their own stories and spend the week working in a team-oriented newsroom. They produced a newscast and a 30 minute newsmagazine.
