6 college journalism students gather in St. Louis, MO for the College Media conference. Each is paired up with a public radio reporter or producer, and tasked with writing, reporting and producing a story in a week. Stay tuned to hear their stories.

Matthew Terrell is a third-year contemporary writing student at The Savannah College of Art and Design. He is the news director for both SCAD Radio and Beecon Television, and an entertainment writer for The Savannah Morning News. Why is this art student into so many journalistic activities? "I thought I loved art so much but after 2 years of nothing but art, it's getting a little bit old."

A senior at Seton Hall University, Lauren is the News Director at her heavy-metal format college station, which involves helping the DJs produce news stories. "Sometimes they're lucky if they even know who the president is, so I have my work cut out for me," she says. She is also promotions assistant at Z100, the #1 radio station in the NY-Metropolitan area. Her focus is in digital media and radio broadcasting as well as a minor in musical performance.

Arian Smedley is a senior at Ohio University majoring in online journalism, a new major at the school, as well as Spanish. Arian has tried her hand in several mediums and hopes to one day combine them all to create stories on the Web. She's written for print publications, produced multimedia projects and has had a small amount of radio experience.

The voices, rhythms and tempos of NPR were always part of the background buzz in Nathan's life. He spent three summers interning at KUOW-FM, the NPR affiliate in Seattle, his hometown. Nathan provided production assistance to "Weekday" and coordinated a summer radio internship program for local high schoolers. During the year, Nathan produces and hosts a radio talk show at Williams College, where he is a senior majoring in history.

Christopher is a junior at Loyola College in Maryland. He currently serves as news director, anchor, and reporter for Loyola's student radio station. He began his journalism career as an anchor, reporter, and writer for "Teen Perspective 2 News," a monthly news program for young people at the ABC affiliate in his hometown of Baltimore.

Natalia Smolenski is a senior concentrating in Middle East Studies at Brown University. She grew up in a Polish family in Plano, Texas. Last year, she spent a year in Cairo where she learned Arabic. Natalia also interned at KERA-FM in Dallas.

Next Generation Radio is a series of one-week, student radio training projects co-sponsored by NPR and several journalist and media organizations. The projects are designed to give students who are interested in radio and journalism an opportunity to report and produce their own radio story.
