Name: Katherine Opitz
Hometown: Frankfurt, Germany, but home is where the heart is, so Northridge, Califoria
School(s): California State University, Northridge, Class of '09. Major: Broadcast Journalism
NPR Internship: NPR West - Day to Day
Sick of the cold weather in her home country of Germany, Katherine moved to Southern California three years ago to study journalism. Here, she is living her lifelong dream of working in radio. Katherine started listening to NPR on the Armed Forces Network while living in Germany. The Day to Day intern fell in love with the medium when she visited a news radio station at age three. Twenty years later she produced—and later anchored—the evening news at her college radio station KCSN. During her time at NPR, Katherine has started to explore reporting and photography. She hopes to continue down this newfound path in the future. When not at NPR West, the passionate driver is probably stuck in LA traffic, rushing to her afternoon classes at Cal State Northridge. There, she is finishing up her degree in broadcast journalism. In her free time, this beach girl enjoys traveling, reading and any and all food.
