Travis Larchuk, of All Things Considered, walks us through DC’s Union Station… and out the back door to the somewhat less glamorous bus depot.
DC’s Union Station, directly across from the capitol building, is quite spectacular: Beneath gorgeous ceilings and Greco-Roman statues, one can find more than 100 places to eat and shop. There’s also a train station and a Metro stop in there somewhere.
Behind Union Station, out of sight of the capitol, is the Greyhound terminal. Its architectural highlights include linoleum floors, splashes of blue paint, and a looming sense of melancholy. This is where I found myself one Friday afternoon as I set out on my journey to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
