Comfort During a Difficult Time

It is said that the older we grow, the more childlike we become. Fitting then, that “Granny Nannies” is a bourgeoning field, as Valerie Bonk reports.

In August 2006, my grandmother, and weekly pen pal whom I loved and adored, suffered from a stroke and was put into a nursing home. She was left unable to speak or understand what is going on around her. My grandfather visited her at least once everyday and always made sure that she was as comfortable and content as she could be.

Valerie Bonk, from the NPR Washington Desk in DC, brings us good news on the student text book scene.

You click on the drop down tabs and select your courses, and section numbers…as you watch the site load your virtual “book bag” you take a deep breath and wait for the results. As you scroll down the page you see $80.00, $160.00, $92.50…etc. You finally reach the end of the list to see a whopping total of $450 for 7 used and abused books you will read and study for 16 short weeks, never look at again and get maybe $80.00 at most when you sell them back to the bookstore.
