Neighborhood Rallies for a Grocery
Many tourists and office workers rush through Penn Quarter unaware of the growing number of people who live just above the busy shops and restaurants. Residents say the neighborhood lacks a basic necessity - a grocery store.
Without a grocery store nearby, many residents have to wait for the weekly farmer's market
on 8th Street to buy fresh produce. Frustrated with the lack of groceries in the area, they are campaigning for Balducci's or another store to move into their neighborhood.
Some Penn Quarter residents have to do some of their grocery shopping at a nearby CVS. They say staples like bread, eggs, meat, and fresh produce are not readily accessible.
Andrew Etter and Dara Rosenberg live on 7th Street. Etter has started a blog, GPLiving
, to chronicle the neighborhood's development and the continuing fight for a grocer.
