NABJ Conference
August 19-25, 2001
Orlando, FL

The 2001 NABJ Next Generation Radio Project was funded by National Public Radio.

This project was designed to give college students interested in journalism careers a chance to spend a week working one-to-one with a professional journalist. The participants conceived, developed, recorded, edited and produced their own stories, and spent the week working in a team-oriented newsroom. They also produced two daily newscasts and a newsmagazine, all webcast on the internet.

Much of the music in the NABJ Next Generation Radio's Voices program came from a group called "Thievery Corporation." It's a Washington, DC based group and earlier this year, Weekend Edition Sunday host Liane Hansen with Producer Phil Harrell profiled them.

James Ellis III (above, being interviewed by James King) won a "poetry slam" at the NABJ annual conference. We video-taped him reading his poem.
